The walls of the China Great Firewall

August 21, 2020 SEO

When Google first started in 1998 the Chinese government blocked almost all access to the internet. It remained for several years, and even when the PRC allowed a few opening headers in 2005, the wall continued to Grow.

Today, nearly every business hinges on the internet whether they are a practiced scammer looking to cash in on opportunity or law-abiding business helping people. China is one of the world’s top five countries for internet users, and the authorities there spend a great deal of their budget to maintain control over the internet.

What is China’s internet control like?

Today, vast amounts of Chinese internet users turn to search engines to look for information about practically everything. China has a great number of web sites translated into Chinese and a great number of e-commerce businesses extracting vast amounts of data from these sites to be able to Ni one their Chinese market.

In China, the average yearly expenditure on search engine marketing in the marketing sector runs to around 7100 Invest globally per month

In China, a great deal of money is being spent on Baidu’s search engine and if recent rumors are to be believed, will likely be even more spent on their social media site, which is in part why Baidu has been able to capture such a huge proportion of the market. The site is already reported to have more than 100 million users and likely will be even more popular throughout China, competing with Google and possibly also Yahoo and MSN.

Should also be poured some extra effort into attracting electronic (ongoing)commerce customers from China. This portion of the market is already well weighted by the government and will become a large component of the market in the future. By choosing to create an extra platform for Chinese exchanges and businesses to interact with, Baidu could become a larger part of your Internet marketing strategies.

The use of search engines will become even more important in the future. There are also very few people in China who have gained acceptance in the market. Many online businesses will be needed for Services. In the future, Baidu searching will become the primary source for many Chinese internet users, and Baidu SEO could become the norm in China. By giving Baidu SEO practices a try, you may find that it is similar to how Google does it. However, some differences may make SEO for Baidu a distinctive approach that will work well for many small businesses in China.

Is Baidu Google?

Currently, Baidu.com is China’s leading search engine and portal. However, Baidu.com English is currently not as popular as Google.com in China. Baidu is losing ground fast. This has made some webmasters puzzled recently. Why is Baidu failing to meet its goals in promptly gaining market share from Google? Is Baidu’s success all due to its home page design? Or is the SEO behind the site inferior to that of Google?

The answer to the above questions lies in the name “Baidu”, which is very much similar to Google. The name is taken from the word “Baidu” which means “the Way’. This is why some webmasters might be tempted to give up and start working with Google. Since the name is similar to the search engine most of the time, then the competition level is higher, and so is the cost of marketing.

But there is a problem here. “Way” is very much a colloquial term in China. Therefore, apart from being similar to the search engine, “Baidu” is also a magical name for the people. Many of them have heard this name so, they easily recognize it. Hence, many webmasters opt for Baidu SEO. But if you will conduct small research you will find out that there are still a lot of people who do not know Baidu exists.

They have heard of Google, but they do not have a clear understanding of how it works. Many of them just trust the statistics that are offered by internet marketing companies who are prominent in China such as China eCommerce. If these guys are saying that 70% of the traffic is on Baidu, then you can be sure that the statistics are at least greater than Google’s.

Secondly, Baidu is not only successful in the SERPs. It is also very much popular in social media. Hence, you will get many people talking about your site on Weblogs and in forums. This means that your page will become popular, and Baidu will give you a higher rank as a result. If you analyze some of the most successful sites in China, they all have a very high PR, and with good PR, they also rank very high in the SERPs.
