Keywords Are Like the aids and the spiders!

August 20, 2020 SEO

When I first began blogging I was just like everyone else, clueless as to how blogging worked. I had very little idea that keywords were important.

Then I found out. I set up a blog the next day and wondered to myself “What do I put in the tags”? Tags are where you put your keywords, apart from the post title.

If I didn’t know anything about blogging, I assume I would have done the same thing that I did and submitted lots of random links to my site. Then I spent the next few months building farms of links, mostly from free directories and blogs.

I didn’t realize at the time the importance of tags. So when I started blogging I just built tags and lots of them. Some were good, some were bad, some were ambiguous as to whether they were relevant or not.

What am I talking about?

Well, I tagged every post I made into a tag. From the title to the body, to the end. I didn’t think about tags at all, I just threw keywords into every post.

I realized quickly that I had lost control of this. If I went back in now, I would destroy these tags and the resulting links. The resulting SEO just wasn’t good enough and I lost total control of the linking, which had been achieved inadvertently.

So I started over again with a few tags and a slightly different layout, this time on a blog. Within the first few weeks, I got most of my keywords into the tags, and I noticed the links pointing to my site from other blogs started to improve.

I didn’t realize at the time the significance of “keywords”, so basically all I had to do was throw in a word or two, such as ” rises” and bang away I did a whole load more nonspecific links. I didn’t get keen on keywords at the time, I just wanted to get the word out about my site and sort of latent phrases.

Without thinking too much about it keywords just didn’t seem important. After a few weeks of this, I noticed that the rankings were beginning to improve.
